Family photography can be whatever you want it to be. It doesn’t have to be that ‘picture perfect’ photo of everyone smiling at the camera. While this is always so lovely to have – it’s totally okay if it’s not and I would argue – even better if it isn’t.

Documentary photographs preserve the imperfections, chaos, and beauty of ordinary life. Creating images that bring you right back to specific moment in time, how it felt. These unscripted images are always my favourite to capture and I know they will always be the favourites for so many families and generations to come.

This little family first invited me to capture their family in a documentary style way back in 2015 at their American Thanksgiving Dinner. It was always close to my heart, such a warm and welcoming family. Being invited back so many years later to capture this little family all together was so special and a great reminder of why I love what I do.
